How much time does your orga­ni­za­tion waste in meet­ings try­ing to fig­ure out what you already decided in a pre­vi­ous meeting?

When you don’t “close the loop” in meet­ings, you and your team­mates will wind up invest­ing pre­cious time try­ing to recre­ate what was already dis­cussed but left open-ended. What was the final deci­sion? Who was the project owner? What were the next steps?

Why Off-Site?

One of the best things I get to do as an Exec­u­tive Coach at Build­ing Cham­pi­ons is to facil­i­tate Exec­u­tive Retreats. I love see­ing how each unique mem­ber of the exec­u­tive team trans­forms just hours after the retreat launches. I wish I could say that my coach­ing was solely respon­si­ble for this beau­ti­ful trans­for­ma­tion, but it is not.

There is some­thing mag­i­cal that hap­pens when a small group of tal­ented and busy lead­ers pull away from their desks, leave their offices, trade in their suits for jeans and check out of their homes and into an envi­ron­ment that is dif­fer­ent than the norm for a day or two.

The expe­ri­ence of an off-site retreat can be of incred­i­ble value.

The soft stuff is the real stuff.” Car­los Brito, CEO of Anheuser-Busch InBev, shared this thought with about 4000 busi­ness lead­ers at last year’s World Busi­ness Forum, a must-attend event for busi­ness leaders.

Car­ing for and devel­op­ing those we lead is job num­ber one, but too many lead­ers view it as “soft” and not real or impor­tant. Car­los went on to explain that the “soft stuff” is not a nui­sance to be del­e­gated to HR, but rather it is one of the most impor­tant func­tions for lead­ers to own.
