The Power of One

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

As I write this, I am in Washington DC as a guest of our client and partner Chick-fil-A at their annual conference.

The event kicked off last night, with about 3600 of their team members in attendance. It was a powerful opening, with music by Israel Houghton and a great message by Bill Hybels. Bill is the Sr. Pastor of Willow Creek Church in Chicago, and he founded the Leadership Summit which impacts thousands of leaders every year from around the world.

What struck me last night was the theme. I’m not sure whether Israel and Bill had synched up prior to that night, but their message was clear.

Each of us can be used to forever impact the life of one person.

Your Perfect Week

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Think about the best work week you have ever had.  Maybe you just started daydreaming about that award trip to the Bahamas, or the leadership conference (golfing vacation) in Palm Springs….but for the purpose of this exercise, let’s consider something else.

Think about a week that you really brought your “A” game to the office.

You were on time, fully present and prepared for all your meetings.  You closed the deals you were working on.  You executed with excellence.  Not only this, but you had time to think, to plan, to exercise, and you were home in time for dinner!  Did I mention email?  Yes, you were even caught up on all email correspondence.  Not just your work email, but your Linkedin, Facebook, and personal email accounts.

A Day That Will Change Your Life

BCE Life PlanningAs many of you know, I have spent the last 13 years of my career building an executive coaching company

What my team and I get to do each and every day is to help business professionals improve their thinking, their abilities and their actions.  We walk our clientele through a model we call the Core Four, which is comprised of four critical elements:  Life Planning, Vision, Business Planning and Priority Management.

When we begin our journey with a new client, the Life Plan comes first.

I believe Life Planning is not just a strategy for life, but also for business.  Think about it for a moment.  What causes a huge percentage of professionals to crash and burn, or to just perform at mediocre levels?

Are You Speaking the Same Language?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

LanguageA few months ago I had the wonderful privilege of having an executive client come to my office for a full-day coaching session.  The purpose of the extended session was to help her sharpen the skills required for her to advance as a leader in her company.  My client is incredibly smart, a very hard worker, well respected and passionate about her longstanding role in this international organization.  She is also the highest ranking female leader in her male dominated firm.

We planned to spend the day working on her soft skills so that she could improve how she interacts with the various behavioral styles within her company and executive team.  One of the more powerful exercises we worked on was to dive deep into the DISC language.

If you are not familiar with DISC, I provided an overview in last week’s blog, Understanding DISC.
