The Soft Stuff

The soft stuff is the real stuff.” Car­los Brito, CEO of Anheuser-Busch InBev, shared this thought with about 4000 busi­ness lead­ers at last year’s World Busi­ness Forum, a must-attend event for busi­ness leaders.

Car­ing for and devel­op­ing those we lead is job num­ber one, but too many lead­ers view it as “soft” and not real or impor­tant. Car­los went on to explain that the “soft stuff” is not a nui­sance to be del­e­gated to HR, but rather it is one of the most impor­tant func­tions for lead­ers to own.

Do You Believe?

How painful it must be to build, sell, or con­tribute to a prod­uct or ser­vice that you don’t believe in!

Too many peo­ple have set­tled in their careers. They are spend­ing the major­ity of their hours work­ing for orga­ni­za­tions that they just don’t align with.

This does not mean that the com­pany or the prod­uct is inher­ently bad, it just means that they don’t really believe in the value they offer.

This is prob­lem­atic for two reasons.

The Release

Here is a ques­tion for all you par­ents: When do you start prepar­ing for the release? That time when your kids make the jump from your home to a home of their own, to a col­lege cam­pus, or (in the case of my son Dylan) a six­teen hour flight away on the east coast of Australia.

Our fam­ily has spent the past week at a remote surf spot in main­land Mex­ico. Trav­el­ing with just the 6 of us is not the norm, as we usu­ally end up bring­ing other fam­ily or friends. But this vaca­tion had to be different.
