Finding Those Who Have IT

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

It is good to be back in the office today after a huge week in Sunriver. Some of you might know that we just finished The Building Champions Experience, which is the real crown jewel event for our company.  It consists of four days of business and life coaching with over 225 attendees, and it‘s a ton of fun for our team!

During the Experience, there are main-stage lessons and small breakout sessions on topics ranging from life planning to exceptional customer service to best practices for strategic thinking. With this wide range of topics, there was one question I was asked more than any other during the week, and it is the basis for this post.

“How have you assembled such an amazing team of caring and incredibly talented people?”

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Hey there readers,

I will not be writing a regular post this week. My team and I are out of the office, leading our third annual Building Champions Experience in central Oregon. I will do my best to share key thoughts and insights from the week via Twitter, and you can also follow along on our BCE Blog.

I will be back to my regular blogging next week.  I appreciate you reading what I have to say, and your additions and comments!

Cheers,

A Thinking Process Every Leader Must Know

Friday, September 10th, 2010

Every good leader has a collection of tools they draw from to promote better communication within their team. Some of these tools are useful because they help the leader to gather accurate and realistic information from within. This information can be used to make decisions that will lead to greater success and improved team culture.

Some years ago, Building Champions Coach Raymond Gleason shared a thinking process with me which has revolutionized both the way we communicate internally, and the way I coach my clients. I have coached hundreds of leaders through this process, and all have shared with me that they have gotten powerful results.

It’s called the “Keep-Start-Stop.”

How to Serve Those Who Serve Us

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

This week has been one filled with great inspiration and sorrow for me.

I am writing this from one of the most beautiful locations I have ever been to. I am at Malibu, which is a Young Life Camp located in Canada in a narrow fjord called Princess Louisa Inlet. The first picture included here shows the beauty of this place. The other is my inspiration for this post.

On Monday, I arrived here with my son Wesley and about 50 young people from our church. We are here to serve the families of US military who have recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan or Iraq. Some have only been back in the states for a few weeks, and this is the first real down time they have had with their wives, husbands and kids.

Re-entry can be very difficult, and my role has been to serve as a small group leader with a few couples. It has been truly rich and wonderful.
